Terry Dougas was born to Greek parents in Vancouver, Canada in 1977. When he was four years old, Terry’s parents moved back to Greece, where he was raised in the city of Volos. His love of film brought him to Los Angeles, where he attended and graduated from the UCLA Extension Film and Television Program.
After working as an assistant to numerous producers and directors, and at any odd job he could find in order to learn the craft of filmmaking, Terry produced his first movie, The Mesmerist, at the age of 23. The film, with Barbara De Fina (Martin Scorsese’s producing partner during the 1980s and 1990s) as executive producer, and Neil Patrick Harris and Jessica Capshaw starring, was released in the United States in 2002 and distributed worldwide soon after.
Achieving success as a producer so early in his career inspired Terry to passionately pursue even greater projects.
Terry’s close relationship with Barbara De Fina continued as, together, they produced Brides, with Martin Scorsese as executive producer. After its theatrical release in 2004, Brides went on to become one of the most successful Greek films in history. In 2005, Terry partnered with close friend and film fanatic Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis to form G&M Films, a film and television production company.
In 2006, G&M Films partnered with Ted Field’s Radar Pictures. Ted Field, one of the most prolific producers in the industry, has produced or executive produced over sixty movies in a range of genres, from Revenge of the Nerds to Runaway Bride to The Last Samurai.
The partnership was a near-instant success, starting with Swing Vote, which went into production in 2007 with Kevin Costner attached to star. Following were The Box, starring Cameron Diaz, and This Side of the Truth, starring Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner. Both finished shooting in spring of 2008, and are currently in post-production.
In advance of Swing Vote’s release on August 1, 2008, Paris and Terry launched their new company: 1821 Pictures. The company has four films in post production, as well as a number in projects (including documentaries and television series) in various stages of development.
Terry’s roots remain strongly planted in Greece, and he returns several times each year to the country where he was raised. Paris and Terry are dedicated to delivering quality entertainment to the U.S. and international markets, and 1821 Pictures is especially committed to promoting Greece and its artists all around the world.
